To commemorate the 125th birthday of the surrealist Belgian painter René Magritte, Swatch is featuring two of his most famous paintings on the world's smallest canvas. The entire New Gent THE SURREAL PAY! watch features a print of a section of his 1964 painting Le fils de l'homme. Magritte is known for his dreamlike, imaginative aesthetic and evocative symbols (e.g., the bowler hat, the apple, and the pipe), which often appear in his works. The painting is a self-portrait of the artist. It depicts a man in a coat and bowler hat, with a green apple floating in front of his face. He stands in front of a low wall, with the sea and a cloudy sky in the background. The face adorns the dial with its simple hands. The sky is visible on the upper half of the silicone strap, and the coat on the lower half. The waterproof watch is packaged in a matching cardboard box, which also has information about the painting printed on the back, and is equipped with an accurate, battery-powered quartz movement. It features an integrated payment function (SwatchPAY!).
