Swatch embarks on a journey through the art world with the Art Journey collection. The New Gent Special HOLLYWOOD AFRICANS BY JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT is dedicated to the eponymous work by the American artist, painter, and draughtsman. His works are among the most sought-after art objects of the 20th century, and he was the first African-American artist to break through in the predominantly white art world. In 1982, at the age of 21, Basquiat was the youngest participant in documenta 7 to date. After his death in 1988, he left behind more than 1,000 paintings and objects, as well as 2,000 drawings. The painting "Hollywood Africans" was created in 1983 during an extended visit to Los Angeles, and detailed views are printed across the entire watch. The dial features the trio of figures (Basquiat on the right, the painter Toxic, who traveled with him, on the left, and the rap musician Rammellzee) and black hands. The printed case is made of blue plastic, housing a precise quartz movement with a battery. The special edition is packaged in a matching cardboard box, with information about the painting printed on the back.
